St. Thomas the Apostle School: Achieve Excellence, Success in Faith-Based Education, Focus on Academic Success
Happy November Everyone, The month of October brought to us a wonderful book fair. The efforts of Mrs. Bialkowski and her plethora of volunteers did not go unnoticed. Students of all ages spent countless hours searching through the book fair for the right item to purchase. Students in the 8th Grade have been working diligently on their “Advocacy for Change” presentations. The assignment allows them to research problems in our society today such as bullying, abuse, etc. The data they gather, along with the information, builds a mini Master’s Thesis. Watching the presentations has been astounding for their classmates, teacher, and myself. 8th Graders are preparing for the nest milestone, taking the HSPT/Catholic High School Exam. We know they are prepared and will be successful! Grades 2-8 have completed their first session of MAP Growth Testing. The growth assessment allows our faculty to analyze the data and work with the students in their ILP’s (Individual Learning Plans) which is utilized fully on Classworks.
Sadly, we said goodbye to the ducks in the Pre-K and Kindergarten. Students of all ages enjoyed every minute of spending time with the ducklings from the point of hatching to their departure. On the wildlife front, the trout have arrived. Our students in 6th grade participate in a program known as “Trout in the Classroom”. Students, with the guidance of their science teacher Ms. Brodo, learn the life cycle of the trout as well as understanding how to maintain their habitat. Currently we have 19 trout which are enjoying their time in their fish tank. This program has been an STA staple for years, and everyone involved enjoys every minute watching these creatures grow, and then releasing them in the spring.
I would like to take this time to congratulate Viktor Mielnik, on not only winning the Fire Safety Poster Contest here at St. Thomas the Apostle School, but in placing first in the overall town wide competition. This contest involves all students in the 5th grade throughout the town of Bloomfield. Please be on the lookout for all the fun activities taking place this month. The H&S is hosting several fundraisers, the most notable being the Pie Sale. The Thanksgiving Feast will be taking place on November 21st. It is a wonderful tradition at STA where we all can gather together as a family, enjoy a meal, and give thanks for our blessings. Our Social Actions Committee led by Mrs. Hoffman thanks everyone for their donations to our “Pink Out Day” benefiting breast cancer awareness. Be on the lookout for flyers regarding Thanksgiving Food Collections! The Social Actions Committee will be donating to the less fortunate. There are so many exciting things happening at STA. Please be sure to keep up to date with the Friday folders, and we ask everyone to please update their email contacts as we have fully transitioned to our new emails - first initial, last name @staschoolnj.org.
Have a wonderful month everyone Thanksgiving blessings to you and your families.
