“Chess helps you to concentrate, improve your logic. It teaches you to play by the rules and take responsibility for your actions, how to problem solve in an uncertain environment.: - Garry Kasparov. Chess has been a part of the STA community for many years. Mrs. Cianci works with students interested in learning chess in grades 1 through 8. Older students volunteer to work with the younger students to help them truly understand the game. The interaction enables all the students to become better at the game. Parents, Grandparents, and alumni have volunteered their time to work with our chess players out of their love of the game. Every session begins with a prayer, a snack, a brief lesson, and then they get to interact with each other as they play the game. We begin and end the game with a handshake, encouraging good sportsmanship.
