The St. Thomas the Apostle Chapter of NJHS
The Saint Thomas the Apostle Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society recognizes the student who exceeds in the following areas: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Citizenship, and Character.
To be inducted into The National Junior Honor Society please see the criteria below:
Criteria 1
To be eligible for membership, the candidate must be a 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student. Candidates must have been in attendance at the school for a minimum of two trimesters. Should the student be a transfer from another school, the principal of St. Thomas the Apostle School will seek a recommendation from the previous principal, or the Faculty Council may waive the trimester regulation.
Criteria 2
Candidates must attain a minimum combined 96 average for 3 consecutive trimesters in major academic classes (Total minimum combined average of 96 each trimester in Religion, Reading, Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science.) Candidates will also be monitored for excessive tardiness, misbehavior and detention assignments during each trimester.
Criteria 3
Candidates must maintain the minimum 96 minimum combined average in the major academic classes per trimester to remain a member of the National Junior Honor Society. Candidates who do not meet this requirement will be put on probation. Candidates who are excessively late, or who have received multiple detentions for misbehavior, may also be put on probation. Academic or behavioral probation will be allowed once each school year. If the candidate exceeds this allowance, he or she will be removed from the National Junior Honor Society.
Criteria 4
The nomination of each new member to the chapter shall be by majority vote of the Faculty Council. A letter of acceptance must be signed and returned to the NJHS Moderators Ms. Glennon and Mr. Marc D’Antonio.
CRITERIA 5
Candidates must complete 2 hours of community service per school month. Approved service activities include peer tutoring, social actions committee, altar serving, Bunny Breakfast, or Santa Breakfast, volunteering at a nursing home, and helping at a food pantry or kitchen.
