My name is Teresa Tasco and I have been doing what I love, teaching children for the past 25 years. I have always wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. I am first-generation American and the first of my family to graduate from college. I was born in Newark but lived my entire life in Bloomfield. I also bought my first home in Bloomfield. I attended Sacred Heart of Bloomfield as a student, and my three children did as well. I graduated from William Paterson University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education (K-8) and a minor in sociology. I also received a religion certificate after attending classes at Caldwell College.
My background includes instructing students in K-8. I have developed, implemented, and instructed programs and classes. I have instructed students in Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Reading, Religion, and Math. In the past I ran the New Jersey Consortium for the Gifted and Talented Programs for grades 2-8 and was director of an After-School Program. I am skilled at formulating curricula and lesson plans (including unit by design), evaluating students and school performance.
Throughout my career I have been recognized for improving student performance and developing innovative programs. I am effective in communicative skills, I have the ability to acquire and keep students’ attention, and I have a strong desire to provide the highest quality of education to every student. My goal is to instill my love of learning into every student. I wish to help every child reach his/her fullest potential academically, spiritually, socially, and emotionally.
I was named Teacher of the Year in the Archdiocese of Newark in 2000 when I taught at Sacred Heart in Bloomfield, NJ. My philosophy of teaching is that all students can learn and succeed. My job as a teacher is to care about my students and teach them in a way they can learn best. I strive to reach each individual learner to reach their full potential. I teach my students to be kind and compassionate to each other as Jesus has taught us. A teacher touches the lives of their students, their families, and leaves impact on them which can be remembered forever. My goal is to be remembered forever as a teacher who cared. I look forward to teaching my future students at St. Thomas the Apostle School.
