The Social Action Committee is a group of students in 5th -8th grade who support and assist in causes and projects that are consistent with the school’s social and religious goals. Members look to improve our world, locally and globally. Students focus on supporting those who are in need or less fortunate with the coordination of an annual food drive for the Community Foodbank, letters and care packages for troops overseas, and a Mother’s Day collection for a local Battered Women’s Shelter. Locally students work to improve the school by planting flowers and decorating for holidays. Students support Global concerns in their effort to protect the environment and the sanctity of life.
Mrs. Hoffman (ahoffman@staschoolnj.org) heads this program, and regularly meets with the students involved to think of new ideas. So far this year the students have held dress down days for Breast Cancer Awareness and have collected items for the Straight & Narrow House in Patterson as it recovers from its damaging fires and displacement. The students are preparing for food collections and other drives throughout the school year.
